The Highland Heights Police Department is a professional, proactive police agency comprised of 27 sworn officers. Our community-oriented department works 12-hour rotating shifts. The Highland Heights Police Department is a CALEA Accredited Agency. Our agency offers a number of specialty assignments. Including: SWAT, Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, Bomb Squad, Narcotics Unit, Bike Patrol, Hostage Negotiators, Detective Bureau, D. A.R.E. Officer, School Resource Officer.

Job Requirements:
Under direction and supervision of the Sergeant of Police, the Patrolman is a sworn police officer who is responsible for the protection of life and property, preservation of peace and order, prevention and suppression of crime, arrest of offenders, recovery and return of stolen property and enforcement and regulation of traffic. His or her performance involves the frequent exercise of independent initiative and judgement and excellent communication skills.
Age: At least twenty-one (21) years of age on or prior to the date of the examination. No person is eligible to receive an original appointment on or after the person's forty-first (41st) birthday.
US Citizen: Citizen of the United States and a resident of the State of Ohio for at least one (1) year.
High School Grad/GED:
High School graduate form an accredited high school as approved by the State Board of Education, or GED equivalency.
Valid State Driver's License:
An applicant, at the time of appointment, must be a licensed Ohio driver with a good driving record and must maintain such record at all times. A "good driving record", for purposes of eligibility only. Is defined as have no more than two (2), two-point moving violations or their equivalent within the previous two (2) years. Conviction of one (1) or more six-point moving violations, any felony traffic violation, or their equivalent, in the previous five (5) years shall be grounds for disqualification from eligibility.
Military Service Credit:
Provided applicant has received a passing grade in the written and physical fitness tests, a credit of up to four (4) points will be given based on length of military service. A valid DD-214 is required.
Academy Certification:
Provided applicant has received a passing grade in the written and physical fitness tests, a credit of four (4) points will be given to applicants who possess a valid Ohio Peace Officer Training Certificate or Certification and Eligibility letter.

What to Expect After the NTN Testing Process
Applicant who meets all the Civil Service Commission requirement for the Patrol Officer position will be placed on the eligibility list.
Final scores and eligibility placement numbers will be mailed to applicants.
The Chief will receive the top (8) candidates' names for review for (1) opening
Initial interview with Executive Lieutenant and Chief of Police
The Detectives will interview potential candidates
Finalists are scheduled for ride-a-longs with Patrol Officers.
Background check completed by Detective Bureau (the first time our department contacts your current employer).
Candidates must submit to a polygraph test.
Candidates must submit to a psychological test.
Final interview with Executive Lieutenant and Chief of Police.
A conditional job offer is given.
Candidates must pass a pension physical and drug screening.
Candidate(s) passing all phases of the conditional job offer will receive a final job offer.
