Supervises:  The FFSPM does not have direct reports at this time. They are the key contact for the external accountant with YPTC, and for fiscally sponsored project coordinators.

Brief Description of Role: The Finance & Fiscally Sponsored Projects Manager is essential to the success of The Stewardship Network. In support of TSN’s mission, this person will be responsible for the delivery of high-quality bookkeeping, accounting, and financial services to core staff and our fiscally sponsored projects. This role works with the CEO and specific colleagues to approve expenditures, manage finances, communicate with banking representatives, track overall and program budgets, and provide customer service to fiscally sponsored projects.

The Finance & Fiscally Sponsored Projects Manager is a key member of the core TSN staff team and a right-hand for the CEO on all things related to finance and accounting. Success in this role will require engaging consistently at multiple altitudes, excelling at both the routine operations of our existing infrastructure and leading the further development of those systems to meet our growing needs.

Compensation: 

  • Status: Full Time, exempt.
  • Salary: $60,000/year

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

– Accounting & Finance

  • Oversee and work with contracted accountant to perform all bookkeeping functions, including general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, disbursements, account balances and cash flow monitoring and bank transfers
  • Communicate with banking contacts as needed, with CEO and Business Operations Manager.
  • Work with contracted associates to prepare and review monthly bank reconciliation of all bank accounts
  • Coordinate preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements by contracted associates, for CEO and for presentation to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors
  • Prepare grant-related financial reporting and invoicing 
  • Maintain organizational procedures as related to accounting and finance
  • Prepare for and act as liaison with external auditors/accountants for the annual audit of the financial statements. Ensure recommended improvements, especially related to GAAP and internal control, are implemented and/or addressed
  • With CEO, act as a staff Liaison to the Board Finance Committee, work directly with the Treasurer and other Committee Chairs to strategize and move items from the committee agendas, attend all meetings, coordinate preparation of reports for meetings, and summaries for the full Board
  • Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process. Ensure entrance of budgets into financial system. Monitor progress and keep staff abreast of organization’s financial status vis a vis the annual budget
  • Monitor bank accounts as a part of daily operations (including Positive Pay)
  • Manage organizational cash flow. Work with YPTC accountant to generate mid-year financial forecast to compare with progress of budget estimates and present to Finance Committee
  • Perform bookkeeping tasks as a part of ongoing operations; ensure all transactions are entered to enable accountant to complete bank reconciliations and financial analysis
  • Complete quarterly reconciliation and reporting on fiscally sponsored projects and associated indirect fees

– Fiscally Sponsored Projects

  • Work with CEO and team to assess and make decisions on incoming proposals for fiscally sponsored projects
  • Coordinate the process of creating and finalizing fiscal sponsorship agreements
  • Communicate organizational procedures and policies to fiscally sponsored project coordinators
  • Act as the key liaison for needs from fiscally sponsored project coordinators, including questions about TSN’s services and financial/budget tracking and reporting
  • For consultants and contractors, provide information regarding budget and finance to the Business Operations Manager in order to facilitate preparation of contracts.
  • Work with identified network and TSN Member Community partners to deliver high-quality, on-time, and proactive fiscal sponsorship and administrative services

QUALIFICATIONS:

– Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum five years of experience in a financial oversight and management role, ideally in a non-profit setting
  • Experience with fiscal sponsorship
  • Experience with grant reporting from public and private sources
  • Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks Online)
  • Excellent attention to detail and follow through
  • Ability to build rapport with TSN’s partners in order to maintain relationships of mutual confidence
  • Willingness to ask for help or seek clarity when necessary
  • Professional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge and experience working with CRM databases, Salesforce desired
  • Must be proficient using QuickBooks, Zoom/video meeting software, Adobe Acrobat, Google Suite, and Microsoft Office 365

Work Environment

TSN is headquartered in Ann Arbor, MI. Our current core staff is made up of five individuals, with three of them based in Ann Arbor and the remaining two based elsewhere. The Ann Arbor-based staff members work on a hybrid schedule, spending some days together in the office and some days working from home, with other staff members working primarily from home. This role will act as the key liaison for fiscally sponsored program staff and coordinators who are located throughout the US. Managing fully remote working relationships is an essential aspect to this role. TSN is committed to providing a flexible work environment which supports work-life balance. While our staff primarily follow a Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm working schedule, we are willing to work with employees to adjust schedules and hours in order to meet their needs.
